Hi Everybody,
I've participated in Relay for the past 2 years as a team member, but this year my family and I are putting together our own team that I will be captain of! I am really excited and am trying to come up with good fundraisers that we can do now. I don't want them to be too overwhelming for our team members, or the people who might want to donate since the holidays are coming up. So...I found this web site (www.phoneraisers.com) that gives your organization cash for old cell phones and used ink jet cartridges. We were going to start collecting now and continue collecting untill about 8 weeks before our Relay. Has anybody participated in this fundraiser or heard anything about it? Thanks!

We're doing this right now, and I've found it quite helpful just to tell people about it. Places like libraries, which use large quantities of ink, might have cartridges that you can snag, and if you're the only one from your event doing it, make sure that the other relay-ers know!
UPDATE:
I put letters explaining the "Phoneraiser" on 100 mailboxes along with a ziploc bag. I asked everybody to place the ziploc bag on their front porch in a visible spot on Monday, and explained that someone from the team would collect their items. When I got home there was a ziploc bag with 2 inkjet cartridges in it hanging on my front door! So maybe this one will do well! I'll keep you posted.
No we have not done this type of fund-raising, but it sounds very interesting. Let us all know how it turns out - it helps raise money as well helps the environment - a two for one special.
We have used home demonstrators to help raise money - tastefully simple, avon, etc. and they are very cooperative.
Good Luck!
