We are going with a Mexican fiesta for our theme of parties and I was wondering if anyone had a clever slogan to go along with our fiesta.

Theme ideas
The theme for Franklin County, Kansas is "Color A Cure." We are promoting the Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back! as an overall theme and our teams will use "Color A Cure" for their campsite decorating. We do not have a mission delivery chair so we've assigned mission delivery to our teams. Each team selects a color or group of colors that represent a type of cancer. They will decorate their campsite in their color (s) and provide prevention and educational materials for the cancer their color represents. (These materials are free from ACS if the teams just call to ask!)
For example, black represents melanoma. To show our teams how to do this, we created a "Back in Black" team and made up a chant and campsite decor to go with this theme. Our chant was, "We are here to Relay. We're gonna hit the track. We're fighting melanoma, so we are Back in Black."
Our campsite would be decorated in black and we'd have "Slip, slap, slop and slide" posters (maybe even a game), hand out sunscreen samples and a poster showing the ABCD's of melanoma prevention.
Our teams seem to like the idea and it can be very generic or over-the-top depending how much time and talent they want to invest.
We are a 2nd year event so in addition to the focus on building teams, we're trying to do all we can to make it as simple as possible to participate in all aspects of Relay without making it overwhelming.
The colors also tie in with CRFB in that the survivor area will be decorated in purple, the luminary tent in blue and registration, accounting and all "fight back" areas will be in red. Our event should be very colorful!!

I should have posted this at the top instead..
Our relay doesn't have a general theme, so we do one ourselves. This year we're doing a beach theme...."Friends For A Cure - Voting Cancer Off The Island!" We'll be decorating in complete beach theme, a grass skirt table skirt, table top tiki torches and palm trees!
Our first year we did a football theme..."Friends For A Cure Are Tackling Cancer" We even made our own wooden football receiver for a game, and made our own goal posts to kick a giant football through. I even have these if anybody local would like to come pick them up! Oh, we've got a small putting green too, if ya want it!
I'm in North Central Ohio if anybody wants to come pick up those items for a fundraiser! I'd just like to get them out of my basement.

In Poway, we are doing,
In Poway, we are doing, "Changing the Channel on Cancer." We are using TV shows and having each team decorate their camp for their favorite show, old or current. We will have games and themed laps to go along with that.

Theme
just wanted to share our theme for our 1St Relay, Four Corners Florida
Let's Make Cancer History!
Every team is going to be able to pick a decade or era for their team themes. like the 80's or 60's.. and we have a team doing 1880's pioneers.
We are going to do dance contests for the different dances of each decade as well, like the electric slide, twist macarena, etc.. and we are having a trivia contest with history, pop culture and cancer milestones as well.

Relay Themes
In the past our Relays have and have not had a central Relay theme. When we began our Relay in 2002, we didn't really have a relay theme. Some teams kept their team themes the same year to year and some changed. In 2006 we started incorporating Central Themes, our first year we did "Relay Your Way" and each team chose a theme pertaining to anything. Last Year we had a movie theme, "Lights...Camera...Cure!!!", and each team chose a different Movie. This year our theme is going to be "Relay Around the World", or "Where in the World is a Cure For Cancer?", where each team has to have a different destination. At our kickoff which we had the night before Halloween, our Event Chairs dressed as Tacky Tourist Guides. We had a blast!
I enjoy the "Central" Theme much better than everyone just choosing what they want to do. This makes every team incorporate some creativity!

Theme or No Theme
We are a new relay, just finishing our second year. The first year we had no central theme and the participants decorated their campsites any way they wished. The second year, we decided to have a theme and went with "Wish Upon A Cure". All the campsites were decorated with a Disney movie theme. Both years were great, but there seemed to be more cohesiveness with a centralized theme. Plus, it enabled the committee to utilize it in the decorations, programs, music, etc. Either way, everyone had fun. We will go with a central theme again this year and are currently discussing ideas. I think we like "Oz" - so many possibilities...

Here are some Relay Theme Ideas!
50 States – This way, each team can have a state as their theme (thanks to the Westlake Relay For Life): - see 50 States under Team Themes below for ideas for every state!!!!
Anniversary Themes – These are ideas to use if your event is reaching its 5th, 10th, or more anniversary, these are great ideas!See also Time Capsule themes.
10 Years Closer to the Cure – Have your teams have “cure” and “cancer related” themes… This one has a lot of flexibility! (thanks to Mary Ann Hocking)
10 Years of Love, Hope, Relay – Have your teams have Love or Hope related themes…. (thanks to Mary Ann Hocking)
"10 Years Of Working For A Cure" - You can have each team have a theme that reflects where they work... For example, I used to work in a dept. that made Powdered cosmetics, so we called ourselves the Powder Puffs, and decorated ourselves with cosmetic puffs... Get the idea? (From Ramesh Moorthy, Baltimore MD)
"10 Years of Dancing for A Cure" - You could have "dancing themes" for each team. (From Ramesh Moorthy, Baltimore MD)
“Happy Birthday, Relay!” – Thanks to ‘the4blairs’ for the inspiration for this theme! Dress in birthday hats, have a birthday cake, etc. and party it up!
“Decade in Review” - It may be fun to do a decade type theme highlighting such years as the 50s, 70s, or 80s. You can do a "Decade in Review" highlighting the last ten years of your Relay. For cancer education, maybe you could do a "Key Developments of Cancer research within the last decade." Just some ideas. :) (thanks to HopeInLindy)
See also “Time Capsule” themes
Beach Party! – see Beach themes below under team themes
Butterflies, Beaches, and Buffett (as in Jimmy Buffett) – Thanks to Kerri M. and the Greater Auglaize Relay For Life! - http://www.auglaizerelay.com/for sharing this great idea! – “Our theme for this year is Butterflies, Beaches, & Buffett (as in Jimmy Buffett) Cancer Take Flight On Butterfly Wings Tonight. We are having a live butterfly release at opening & closing (weather permitting). I am sending you a sample of our tickets. I bought butterfly pins off a couple of ebay stores so that the person gets a pin to wear & keep & if they come to Relay they receive a live butterfly to "release cancer" "in honor of" "in memory of" or just for fun. We are planning on having Jimmy Buffett music, butterfly bracelets, sand for the kids to play in, coconut bra contest, plus anything that anyone can think of! We had a committee member who's son had a luau wedding reception, she got all the decorations from that for us to use. We will sell lei's also. Our survivor dinner will be a luau (held in March or April) to hopefully excite our survivors about Relay. Feel free to use any of our ideas for your web site. My husband, best friend & I came up with the theme. We will read this poem at our opening.
Butterfly Indian Legend
If anyone desires a wish to come true they must first
Capture a butterfly and whisper that wish to it.
Since a butterfly can make no sound, the butterfly can not reveal
The wish to anyone but the Great Spirit who sees and hears all.
In gratitude for giving the beautiful butterfly its freedom,
The Great Spirit will always grant the wish.
So, according to legend, by making a wish and giving the butterfly its freedom,
The wish will be taken to the heavens to be granted”
Carnival For A Cure – Have all your teams have a carnival/circus theme!!!See Animal and Circus related themes below! (thanks to mamamo777!)You can sell stuffed animals to raise money (if that fits with your local rules! Please check with your committee/staff!)
Cartoons/ Cartooning For A Cure / Let’s Toon Out Cancer– See Cartooning below (thanks to many, including IRelay4Mom)
The Countries Of the World – Thanks to many, including IRelay4Mom)
Cruisin’ For A Cure – Have a “car” theme for your event…Teams could use any of the car related themes below under the ideas for team themes, such as “Little Red Corvette”, “Car Wash For A Cure”, “Car Bashers For A Cure”,
Dancing For A Cure – Build your entertainment and team themes around Dancing…
Games (Cancer is Not A Game!) – Build your event around each team having a “Games” Theme (See below)

Sports Theme (overall for event) – Have a “Sports For A Cure” Overall theme and let each team have a sports theme

Wild Wild West! – A great theme from the Lebanon County Relay For Life – thanks to Laura for sharing – “The Relay For Life of Lebanon County is taking an exciting trip back in time for Relay 2006!We're going back to a time when horses and cowboys roamed the desert free. When buffalo were plentiful, and the skies were always clear.Back to a time when Wyatt Earp, Buffalo Bill Cody, and Wild Bill Hickok marshalled the territory from Illinois to Nevada. Back to a time when there were no cars and no nuclear plants, and the ozone protected us from sun radiation better.Back when cancer was accountable for far fewer deaths than in todays' world. On behalf of the Lebanon Planning Committee, and our Honorary Co-Chairs Tiffany Bare, Heidi Eck, and Renato Rivera, we invite you to grab your western duds, and jump on board the chuck wagon!Come along and join us at Cedar Crest High School on May 19-20, 2006, as we take this wonderful trip back through time to the Wild Wild West!”What a great idea!!!!!

Decades
The Relay For Life of Moon (near Pittsburgh, Pa.) is turning 15 in 2008. So we've decided on a theme that involves celebrating the decades. We're hoping to do entertainment that involves playing games of the past few decades (Deal Or No Deal, Let's Make a Deal, etc.). We were thinking that it would be fantastic to get teams to decorate their campsites with a certain decade.
Could you imagine a 1920s campsite?? That would be great!!

"Through the Generations"
I am not sure how I missed your comment Bobby, but I did. Our Relay in Merced, CA is turning 10 this year. We have decided on a decades theme as well, but haven't really come up with a name we like. I like "Through the Generations". Each campsite would choose a decade and decorate accordingly. The slogan can be something like "Fighting Cancer 10 Years at a Time". We are open to suggestions. What do you think?

Hello - this is my 3rd year
Hello - this is my 3rd year being involved oin relay and we have had a theme every year. In my opinion relay night is just more exciting when there is a theme. Last year we did Celebrations and every team decorated in a different type of celebration and we had a contest for best campsite. This year the theme will be Hope & Faith (tv/movies).

Theme ideas at Relay
This will be the 12th Relay in Murray, KY in May 2008 and we have never had a theme for our Relay! I have heard of many Relays who do a different theme each year and have been to quite a few. But doesn't it just limit your teams' creativity? Do you think that having a theme for Relay works better for smaller Relays than it would for a Relay of 80 or more teams? I would love to hear from some of those Relays who can share the pros and cons of having a theme.

themes
I think themes can add fun to the event and encourage team spirit, no matter what size Relay you are having! It encourages teams to have fun with their campsites and compete on another level (a team that can't raise as much as other teams could have a great campsite and get recognized for that). Have fun with it. Our theme last year was Superheroes, but most of the committee (including me) was new to it, so we didn't get to focus on it as much as we would have liked, because we were so busy working on pulling everything else together. This year our theme is "Oz". We stole it from Summit :), because of the lines, "Follow the yellow brick road to a cure" and "There's no place like HOPE". We are going to have a lot of fun with it. Hope this helps! All I can say is GO FOR IT! You won't know until you try!
