Diagnosed at the age of 24, I didn’t consider myself a cancer survivor right away. I wasn’t interested in a label or title; I just wanted to undergo treatment and forget I’d ever had cancer.
It wasn’t until I attended my first Relay For Life and saw so many survivors – young and old – proudly taking that first lap together that I was inspired to get involved. Being a Relay volunteer makes me feel like I’m doing something tangible to beat this disease.
I want to make sure that my young son and the students I teach every day won’t face the same battle I did. I’m proud to call myself a survivor today, and I Relay to help others CELEBRATE the lives of their own loved ones.
