Facebook Link Problem

I have a participant that registered online and linked her Facebook page.  She then went into register another participant and used her information.  Somehow her 2 registrations have gotten crossed.  She has raised almost $200 so far but it is not showing the right total on her FB page.  Got any suggestions as to how to reverse this problem?

Coaching emails in yahoo email

When I send out coaching emails I always send out the test emails.  I send them to a hotmail address read through Windows live and a yahoo email read in the yahoo web email version.  The yahoo version drops the line breaks between paragraphs.  To overcome this  my first thought was to add another line break. Well this does work for yahoo but I end up with an extra break in other email readers.   Has anyone else run into this or similar problems.

I thought I had discovered a way to fix it using html last year but can't remember it now.  My new work around is to format each email as a table of one column and many rows.  I just leave a blank row between each paragraph and don't format the table in anyway. This seems to work but is a little tedious.

Thanks

Jon

Pennsyvania Relay that has a great website

In the past there is a team from ? in Pennsylvania that has had a wonderful website year after year after year. Of course I can't remember who it is.  They usually have their own site with great music that goes along with the theme that they have chosen.  Thank you all! Pam from Grand Rapids Michigan

Facebook Application within Participant Center

I am the Co Chair for my local Relay, I also participated in another Relay a few months ago.  The other Relay had a Facebook Application that added the themometer to your facebook Page.  My Local Relay when I log in we don't have that option.  Anyone know if there is somewhere the online chair needs to go to turn on that option?

Visit #2... and Beyond!

I was watching "Ghost Hunters" the other night. You know the show... two Roto-Rooter guys who search for spooks when they ought to be unplugging toilets. They were stumbling around an old sanitarium in upstate New York in the middle of the night, and to tell the truth, not much was happening. They had a couple of "spooky feelings" and heard a creak or two, but other than that it was snoozeville. I was about to exercise my channel-changing thumb when one of the younger helper-guys gets a frightened look on his face and says "Gaaaa!!

jBlog: If You Build It, Will They Come?

--  15 Days Until Relay --

It's the tree falling in the forest thing. We spend time and energy building the site, but will anyone show up? A cool site that no one sees would be frustrating.

Think about web sites you regularly visit... what got you there in the first place? Why do you keep going back? I don't know about you, but unless I'm using a reference, the reason I return to a site is to see something new. If I go there and find the same thing as before, it's unlikely that I'll go back... at least not anytime soon. On the other hand, if I return to a site and discover new and interesting things, and that happens the next time as well, then I'll probably return.

The same is true for our Relay sites.

jBlog: Promoting Fundraisers

-- 17 Days Until Relay --

We're going to Relay in a little over two weeks... it's hard to believe!

I described the "Recent FUNdraisers" Greeting page section in my previous post, so this is probably a good time for a few thoughts about fundraisers. I seems to me that promoting fundraisers to the public and to the teams is a key function of the Relay web site, especially during the extended fundraising period leading up to the Relay event (I think I called this the third phase in an earlier post). Because of their importance, I try to promote each fundraiser in four ways: on the Nav Bar, on the Calendar, on the main canvas, and via email.

First, as soon as I learn of a fundraiser and get the basic info, it gets an entry under the "Fundraisers" section on the Nav Bar. I arrange entries in descending order by date, and only remove it once the fundraising event has occurred.

WYSIWYG and HTML Editors Issue?

Hi All,

I've been experiencing an issue when switching between the WYSIWYG and non-WYSIWYG editors. I'll send this to our community rep tomorrow, but I wondered if anyone else is running into the same thing.

Essentially, changes made via the HTML (non-WYSIWYG) editor are lost when switching back to WYSIWYG. For example, every time I make a change to the Greeting page via WYSIWYG, I must then re-insert YouTube embed code via the HTML editor. I've had the same problem with code inserted for a PhotoBucket gallery.

Has anyone else seen this? Am I using the wrong procedure, or is this a bug? I've experienced it on two different WinXP machines, and on three different pages. The procedure listed below reproduces the issue.

Thanks for any help!

jBlog: Adding Rooms

-- 19 Days Until Relay --

Now that the foundation is in place, it's time to do some framing.

Visitors land on the Greeting page, so that page deserves appropriate attention. I decided that each of the main groups that would (I hoped) be coming to the site needed a focal point... something that said "Hey! This spot's for you!". The default Nav Bar sections provide focal points for the public, including "Event Information" and "ACS Programs". To this I added a "Mission" section to house information presented by our Mission Delivery Chairperson at the monthly Relay Rallies.

jBlog: Laying a Foundation

-- 31 Days Until Relay --

The Relay was progressing, our team members were out there in web-land, but they had no compelling reason to come to our site. Pretty much the same was true for all the groups I mentioned earlier. It was time to give them what they needed...

Ya gotta have tools, and ya gotta know how to use them. So, after Convio training delivered by Elise (our outstanding ACS Community Rep) I immediately created a "Forms" section on the Navigation Bar, uploaded some forms to the Event Library, and set about hooking them up.

jBlog: To Everything There Is A Season

-- 38 Days Until Relay --

I've got to admit that when I first got involved in this, I didn't know how this Relay thing really worked. As I noted earlier, my company's team is very active throughout the year with various fundraisers and mission activities, so I was at least familiar with what I thought was the overall idea. Turns out I had only glimpsed the whole picture...

The 2008 Relay fell in a period between Debora's major surgeries, so we were able to attend our first Relay event in June, and we were very impressed. People were having a lot of fun, but they were also passionate, respectful, and obviously dedicated to the idea that every person can contribute in their own way to removing cancer from the human condition. The Relay obviously capped much previous effort and activity.

jBlog: What's It All About, Alfie?

-- 39 Days Until Relay --

One of the first conversations I had with Tom and Nicki, the Relay Committee co-chairs was "what is the purpose of the web site?" What's it for? What's it supposed to do? Who's it for? We looked at each other in bemused puzzlement and discussed it a bit, and decided on several documents to make available. This got me thinking, and I eventually sat down to work on a list (as I am prone to do).

It seems to me that it's not a simple matter. Ultimately, the purpose is to help in the fight against cancer... but how would this web site help in that effort? In its own small way, what is its role?

Hi, I'm the website chair for Greene County, TN. Visit us at www.relayforlife.org/greenetn!

Is anyone else experiencing problems with www.quickanimation.com? This is used for creating the rolling sponsor image. After submitting the files to create the GIF, I receive the following error: "

Fatal Error, no source image file found to process

This worked fine for me 2 weeks ago. I tried this on two different machines... so maybe it's not a security issue. Anyone tried this tool lately? Any help is appreciated!

Last year's information

When I registered for 2009, none of the 2008 information was set up - do we need to contact the help desk to get it all uploaded, or were we supposed to back up our lists from last year before the sites went down?

outofthefire – November 6, 2008 – 2:03am

Multiple team captains?

Is it possible to make someone else a team co-captain? For example, I have two committee members who are not team captains, but might as well be, and have asked to be included in the team captain e-mails. I can certainly do this off-site, but it would be so much easier if there was a way to do it within Convio. Any thoughts?

Forum Topics v. Blog

Hi All,

I wanted to suggest that rather than Blog about an issue it's probably easier to create a Forum Topic about it. And we'll probably get more responses.

When you create a Forum topic, your topic shows up under the New Forum Topics in the Right Navigation Bar below the Support Relay badge, above your list of group memberships. Only those groups you check off when you create your topic will actually see it in their list, so it won't show up for Everyone, unless you check for it to.

But there is no tickler for the Blogs. You, the reader has to check each group you belong to individually to find the blogs, which makes them harder to find.

For both Forums & Blogs, if you go back in to Edit your forum or blog, you will have the choice to make that specific item available to more than just the one group you created it in.

Anyway, so there's my suggestion. Blog about experiences, like a diary. Create Forum Topics about issues, frustrations and suggestions.

Participants - Importing Contacts into Address Book

We've discovered that when you export contacts from Yahoo and choose the Yahoo.csv file format, it will create your file with many fields.  Go ahead and leave them, even though you only want the First Name, Last Name and Email.

When you import your file into your Participant Address Book, choose the Yahoo.csv option.  It should import the file for you.

However, if you remove the extra fields,  you'll get an error that the file is likely formatted incorrectly.

Selecting a campsite on-line?

Is it possible to set something up to allow a team captain to sign up for a campsite by clicking on a map of the site? If so, is this a feature that is available currently, or would we have to find a programmer that would be able to generate code for such a page?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I have a Local challenge going on but I would Like to pass it on to The Relayers! I have challenged the teams of Blount County Relay to see how many states you can get to donate to your relay effort. Last year I borrowed it from the Purple Monkeys online and I had 26 states donate to WWJFAC. This year I already have 3 states I know of. Just want to pass it along!

Something good to put on your site is a link to the Relay Online for Teams page (housed here on RelayForLife.org).

This will help your team captains and team members to have access to help-files regarding your local Relay For Life website.

What Can I Put on My Home Page?

Ahh yes - the age old question.  I'm tired of the generic default text that was on my home page when I got my site.  I want something new and exciting to put on my home page.  What are some of the things that can go on Relay For Life home pages?  Not just text...but what other things can I put?  Things like:

  • Upcoming Team Captain Meeting Information
  • Next big Fund-raisers
  • Feature the Relayer or Team with the best looking page

What else?

Don't Lose Your Friends

So, we only have 1 1/2 months left of the 2006-2007 Relay season.  If you participate in Online Fund-raising, then you will probably want to read this blog carefully.

Over the last couple of years, you've been able to import and manage your email contact list within your local event's website.  When all of the 2008 Relay For Life fund-raising websites are published, you will have the opportunity to register your team, just like you have done in years past.  This time, you will need to import your address book.  Stop right there.  Catch your breath.  It's not as bad as it seems.  Why?  Because we are going to provide you with as many online "how-to" tools right here on RelayForLife.org.

Getting started with our first tool, I am going to give you (free of charge) a detailed, easy-to-follow, document that will walk you through the steps of how to transfer your Relay Email address book from your 2007 website to the 2008 website.
