Karen's Kids is a young team, we're in our 2nd year but have a couple of ideas that have worked really well with getting our name out there. I'll share just a few ideas to help other teams here.
Write press releases to local newspapers about your upcoming events, concerts, bake sales, dinners, dances, whatever. Be sure to format the release properly, or else the editor may not even bother looking at it.
I've written a handful of press releases and had some positive experiences. I suggest trying it and seeing where it goes. The local coverage really helps and puts your teams name out into the public at no cost to you! Potentially, a newspaper may even write a feature on you! This is the best kind of thing a Relay Team needs.
I'd be more than willing to help anyone with formating a release as well. Check out the attached pdf fileattached file of a past release for our Flamingo Drop.
Another great way to get your teams name out into the world is a website. Check out what Karen's Kids did at www.karenskidsrelayforlife.org. After you create the site, be sure to put it everywhere you can! Post it on forums, emails, facebook / myspace walls, profiles, signatures, etc.
Hopefully that sheds a little light on getting your name out there.
Ok - you win some sort of award, and are certainly a public relations guru. I haven't seen someone shake up this forum this quick (in a good way, of course)... yet! That's a challenge to all the rest of you out there! :) Way to go Jeffrey!
