Lisa Huskey is entering her 8th year as a Relay For Life participant. She joined the Relay For Life family in 2000, when her grandmother was diagnosed with colon cancer. Over the years, Lisa has found that her favorite part of Relay is watching cancer survivors walk among the Luminaria bags. “It’s like a right-of passage or a badge of courage as well as a salute to those whose courage has walked the path before,” she says.

In Lisa’s words, the perfect Relay For Life would be “the final race when we pass through the Luminarias and see the Light. The names on the previous race’s Luminarias will be faces that we meet and greet. “

In 2007, Lisa joined the Survivors’ Lap for the first time. That experience is her most memorable moment in her 7 years of participating in the event. Her most “fun” memory would be seeing her daughter’s boyfriend in the beauty/talent show dressed as Dolly Parton.

Lisa’s idea of the best Survivors’ Lap song is “I Will Survive.” She says, “My best friend sent me a singing greeting card the day after I was diagnosed. That song played triumphantly!!”

The one Relay that Lisa would like to attend (besides her hometown) would be the Mystic, Connecticut event. Her husband was on a nurse travel assignment in Mystic, CT when she was diagnosed last year. “I want to walk the Survivors’ Lap where the early testing quite possibly saved my life. I want to share my joy with all the medical staff and friends that supported me, encouraged and prayed with me before I returned to Tennessee for surgery and chemotherapy.”

Lisa’s favorite website (besides RelayForLife.org, of course) is Faithwriters.com. When reading blogs, she “chases rabbits.” That means that she follows links as she reads blogs that allow her to study or research God’s Word.
