Building a CommitteeOur Relay this year is "new" so to speak after 2 Relays were combined. I need to expand my committee. Has anyone ever done a Committee kick off? grandkidsgwock – September 11, 2009 – 12:32pm

Starting early to stop cancer! We are starting our fundraising efforts early this year so that we can raise more money for the Relay. We are having a booth fundraiser where we sell booth space for $50 each to direct sales people, local businesses, and crafts people and the booth fee goes to Relay for Life. We got free advertising for it from a local newspaper and have had a great response. We are holding it in the parking lot of my Walgreens. If you want to hold one talk to your local civic center or school if you don't have your own place to hold it. So far we have already raised $400 in rentals and we still have a month to go! walgreenswarriors – September 10, 2009 – 9:48am

Why I RelaySeveral years ago, I had the marvelous experience of gaining a sister, though my mother never had another child. Julie came into my life like a holy whirlwind, and our lives have not been the same since. Julie was a breast cancer survivor - I'd known this for a while already, but shortly after 9/11 our relationship changed dramatically when she asked me if she could "share" her scars with me. I was both honored, and scared. I knew what cancer was - several of my family members had fought the big C before, so I wasn't entirely unfamiliar with the disease. What I was very unfamiliar with was the brutality in which it attacks our bodies. In a hotel room one night, while we were out of town on travels, she revealed her scars to me. hollistevenson – September 9, 2009 – 10:50am

My First time.On April 24-25, 2009 was my first time having any thing to do with the Relay for Life. I had heard of it, but never participated in it. I was living in Orangeburg, South Carolina at the time. I had decided to do the walk for my Mom as she had cancer and passed because of it. I did the walk through my church which sponsored a team to participate. I had a good time and enjoyed it very much. It was a very emotional and wonderful experience for me. I hope to find a Relay for Life organization here in the Island Lake area to participate in next year.

COLLEGE CAMPUS SURVIVORSI am currently Luminaria Chair for my college campus and I am also a cancer survivor. I need good ideas on how to reach out to cancer survivors on my campus. I know there are more of us out there and I want them to feel involved in our Relay! Any ideas... Danielle Maurer – September 8, 2009 – 12:13am

On our way to Committee RetreatOur interested parties meeting in August was a great success. There were 13 and all 13 are now committee members.. As of today we have all major chairs filled , survivorship, luminaria, registration, accounting, online, logistics, sponsorship, publicity and entertainment. All we need is kids camp and maybe a food chair. Our committe retreat is coming up sept 15th. Looking to have a greatt time. I am in search of something I saw at Summit last year. It was an illustration on deligation. I remember wads of paper being thrown at one person. But can not remember the concept. I would like to use this to illustrate that one person can not do it all. Anyone seen that one. Email me at recruitmvrelay@roadrunner.com. Thanks.. Make it a great relay labor day.....
