Patterson Relay For Life

My baby this year was Patterson. It was an amazing experience. The volunteers and community in general really came together and seemed to “get” Relay their first year. I heard several comments from people visiting the Patterson Relay “ this seems like a third year event.” I was very proud of all of the volunteers. They all worked very hard and I think we all benefited from the results. I LOVE PATTERSON! Thanks to everyone that made it happen. We are looking for new volunteers to join the planning committee and subcommittees. Email me if you are interested at matthew.foor@cancer.org

The Virtual Luminaria Is Touching

What a great idea!!!! I love the "light a luminaria" link! I encourage everyone to give it a try. An it has the Wow by sending out a notice to the person who is honored or the family of the remembered! Job well done!!!!!

Prayers do come true

Hi my name is Shirley Walker and I'm from King George Virginia. I have been involved in the relay for life for 3 years now as a member of a team. This past relay was the most special for me. Last August my 19 year old Niece/Godchild was told she had a tumor which turned out to be Ovarian Cancer. What a shock to the family. We were all thinking this can not be happening to such a young child, this is the type of Cancer that effects 45 and older women. Well, after many, many, many nights of prayers she is now Cancer free. My mother has had Uterin cancer, my Aunt Breast Cancer and then this.

Great Job!!!! This will be wonderful

I am so glad that we are finally bringing all of the information together in one place. This is a great way to share our reasons to relay and bring communities closer together.

The Reason I Relay

I am from Lititz, PA and have been involved in Relay for the last 10 years (This will be my 11th year). The last 3 years I have been the Survivorship Chair at the Lancaster Relay and this year I am fortunate enough to have been chosen to go to Washington, DC as an Ambassador. I have lost many family members and friends to this disease over the years. In 2005 I lost my neighbor to lung cancer at the age of 43 and my cousin to melanoma at the age of 33. This year my other neighbor was diagnosed with breast cancer in January, my cousin with cervical cancer and my brother-in-law with colon cancer in May.

My Brother

I started doing the relay in 2004 as a small way of raising money to help the cancer society find a cure for cancer. My brother had been diagnosed the year before and I wanted to do everything I could to help. Well, one week after the relay last year, my brother passed away from lung cancer. So this year the relay is a very important cause for me. My father and one of his brothers had prostate cancer. My mother, her mother and sister all had breast cancer as one of my aunts has had ovarian cancer. Cancer is a disease that must be stopped. We need to do all we can to stop this from tear

Quest For Knowledge

Just returned for the National Strategic Relay For Life Conference in Los Angeles, CA. Thrilled to learn about relayforlife.org and the opportunities to build relationships that it will offer. As always, I return from a Relay For Life conference inspired, informed and empowered to share the mission of the American Cancer Society and to help to eliminate cancer!!!
