On our way to Committee Retreat

Our interested parties meeting in August was a great success.  There were 13 and all 13 are now committee members.. As of today we have all major chairs filled , survivorship, luminaria, registration, accounting, online, logistics, sponsorship, publicity and entertainment.  All we need is kids camp and maybe a food chair.

Our committe retreat is coming up sept 15th.  Looking to have a greatt time.   I am in search of something I saw at Summit last year.  It was an illustration on deligation.  I remember wads of paper being thrown at one person.  But can not remember the concept.  I would like to use this to illustrate that one person can not do it all.  Anyone seen that one.   Email me at recruitmvrelay@roadrunner.com

Thanks.. Make it a great relay labor day.....

A year has passed - Already!

I can not believe it has been a year since I last posted.  Well as you know I went to Summit 08.  I went as Team Development Chair and left as Event Chair.  Not enough time to tell you all, but bottom line.  Moreno Valley Relay 2009 was over the top.  2008 we raised $35,000.00 and this year we raised $68,000.00.  Whooo Hooo....

I informed our Relayers that I would return 2010 as Team Development and the committee would be in need of an Event Chair... Well needless to say just call me 2010 Event Chair.....

2010 Cancer must End!

Our interested Parties Meeting is August 18th and we will hopefully be holding a Show us Your Hope Event.  Moreno Valley Mall goes Purple...

I will keep you posted...

Relay Summit

WOW - I thought Relay U was something - Relay Summit was totally off the hook.  I must say all the information was so helpful.  But I must say the highlight of the event for me was to hear Jeff Ross speak.  Jeff Ross is featured in one of the 4 minute relay cd he is from SC and lost his mother to cancer and boy is he a force to be reckon with.  I knew I was on the right track in wanting to stay in this fight for my brother who lost his battle.  At first I thought what do people think, I have went hog wild over this and it will not bring my brother back.  But you know what, I thought again - forget what others think.  I am doing what I know to be right and I went and had a T Shirt made - it has my brother in his Chef's uniform with one of his masterpiece cakes and at the top of the picture it states "All I do is for Boo".  (That is what we called my brother).  I have looked into the eyes of cancer and I don't want any other big sis to have

Relay University - What a Blast!

What a day! We just had our Relay U on saturday - and boy did we walk away charged up.  If cancer was something physical- it would have gotten beaten down to the ground.  We are ready to do some serious fighting back.  I had another brainstorm, a couple of our speakers were dressed in army clothes ready to fight back.  Well our Relay City has a airforce base, so next saturday I will be at thier barber shop and will recruit a team of soldiers to host our fight back tent - I think they will do it, I will let you know how it goes.  Well on the National Accounts list I pulled from this site, we have 14 in our city (counting the multiples (like 3 starbucks - 3 Bank of America's)there are 22) - right now we have 6 on board and we have not even had our kick off yet.  Cool uh? I just recruiter my nieghbor as Sponsorship Chair - I don't think our relay has had one before.  I think people are open to helping all we need to do is make the ask.

Boy this is a lazy day!

Hello my relay friends!  I really must say I am enjoying being the Recruitment Chair.  This morning I was able to  speak to a few of the employees at a Walgreen store - very receptive group, I look to get at least 5 team captains from there, I would love all 30 of them of course.  30 teams from one store boy - wouldn't that be grand.

Even though I am recruitment chair, seeing all the fundraising ideas and ceremony plans, I want to just do everything.

I am getting excited about Summitt, I see there are quite a few that has already been.  I can't wait.  Our university relay is coming up on Oct 4th, so that will prime the well for us.

Talk to you soon.Money mouth

Our Area Restaurants are offering fundraising Meals.

There are a number of restaurants in my city that are offering fundraisers.  How it works - you pick a date - they make flyers - you pass them out - your invitees show up - bring the flyer and a percentage will be given to ACS. Most are offering 20% - Applebee's is one of them - While trying to get a restaruant on board for the relay as a team - I was given info on thier fundraiser and they give 25% - that is  Acapulco - a mexican restrurant in our area.  So check with your restrurants.

This is what I plan to do - My birthday is in Nov - I will have them do a flyer for both lunch and Dinner - and be there for lunch and dinner and everyone could wish me a happy birthday.  No gifts will be given to me - just their presence and their meal.

Now listen to this - while they are there, I will also get them to sign up as a Relayer.

Cool Uh?  I know I am sneaky - But 2009 is Moreno Valley's Time to Shine!

Fight Back Express Bus in California

This past Tuesday the Fight Back Bus was in our area - how exciting - It was extra special for me to sign, because my brother did not have medical insurance and we know that was the delay in getting him treatment right away. Because we did have a case number from Medicare - the clerk at the pharmacy put us in as medicare pending and we were able to get his prescriptions at a low cost.  If not for that clerk spotting that case number and being merciful, I don't know how my sister and I would have paid for the pain medicinces alone - they were $200 a bottle. Even though this all happened in Indiana, I wanted the story to be heard and posted it on the California ACS CAN website to be given to our California Legislators and then on to Washington.

It was emotional for me, on the way there I thought of how my brother suffer with the pain and would not want anyone else to suffer like that, just because there is no insurance.  It makes you wonder what happed to the oath Do no Harm.  It is so harmful to be sick and not able to get any relief for the pain.  So if you hear that the Fight Back Express Bus is heading your way - go out and support and sign that bus!

So Glad the Olypmics are Over!

Well I had a super busy weekend, so I was not able to post.  But let me tell you I am so glad that the Olypmics are over.  Don't get me wrong, I have love the excitement and seeing USA obtaining all the gold! - But I need some sleep!!!

I just had an idea - I am going to research and see who in my area went or was in the Olypmics and see if I can get them to participate in our relay - or make a special apprearance.  Wouldn't that be exciting!  Worth a try.

Not much to talk about, so I won't babble.

Ok I got the Matching Companies

2008-08-20

Well I thought I was talking to myself until I got a email from Barbie.  Thanks for the encouragement Barbie.

This is what happen with the matching companies, I did a google.  Matching Gifts Companies in Southern California.  It pulled up other charities and lo and behold there was a long list with the link to the company.  I copied it and put in excel and highlighted in red the companies in my city.  The list has 301 companies and so far I have logged in 16 in the data base.  I have a letter completed to send to companies, so all I need to do is call and get a contact name with an email and we may get a foot in the door.

My friends have asked me why I have went hog wild over this and I am sure you may be wondering. So here's my story -

Two years ago My favorite Aunt (she is 10 years older than me) was diagnosis with Colon Cancer - She lives in Indiana- I felt comfortable calling her everyday and giving her support and prayer over the phone.  She made it through - Praise the Lord she is a survivor - So I celebrate Her.
