Fibro Sarcoma Survivor!
On February 6th 2007 I was diagnosed with Fibrosarcoma, a rare cancer that affects the fibrous tissues of your body. Mine presented as a tumor in my left buttock. The day I was told I had cancer I was hospitalized and had three surgeries. One to put in a port-a-cath, another to put in a morphine pain pump and the third to try to remove or biopsy the tumor. They could only do a biopsy, the tumor was too widespread for the surgeons skill level so I was sent to Cedars Sinai to have a ortho oncologist do the re-section.
I spent 132 days in the hospital last year. I had six weeks of radiation. On December 18th, 2007 I was told I was in remission! Yeah! Unfortunately, I have never heard one single happy ending to a fibro sarcoma story, so I decided to prepare my body for a re-occurrence. I am joining Relay for Life to start with short walks. Next, I plan to attempt the two-day Avon Breast Cancer walk…and finally, I am determined to flood my body with healthy foods, lots of water and become a very bad host for cancer.
