Relay - Covington County, Mississippi Style

April 18, 2008 Covington County, Mississippi

Relay For Life in Covington County, Mississippi was a great success -despite the thunderstorms. The event was forced to move inside due to weather. The event was a huge success with hundreds coming out in support of the efforts of all of the teams who worked so hard in the fight against cancer.  The teams played up the Super Hero Theme for this years event - I saw superman, wonder woman, spiderman, the incredible hulk, the incredibles, the nija turtles and many more.

.

As I travel around the state to varous Relay For Life events, I am always impressed with the committment of those who are working towards a common goal. We all Relay for different reasons and we all have a story to share. I heard many of those stories this past weekend. Each time I visit a Relay For Life event I am more convinced that we are winning the battles each day and that we all Relay so that those facing cancer rest easy. Thanks to Convington County for what you do each day to make a difference.

Relay - Hurley, Mississippi Style

Survivors, caregivers, volunteers, teams, family, friends, community = all seen on Friday, May 25, 2007 in Hurley, Mississippi. Hurley is a community of 1,000 that has united together for the second year for Relay For Life raising over $66,000. Wow!

There is great pride in Hurley and this was evident in the outstanding turnout from the community at this years Relay. I am proud to have had the opportunity to share in the experience of Relay For Life in Hurley and I walked away with further understanding of community and why we are all important in this common goal. Survivors taking the first lap

Each year I travel to many Relay For Life events across the great state of Mississippi. This past weekend my travels took me to Scott County, Mississippi. The Relayer's of Scott County were out in full force on Friday showing that Scott County is committed to making a difference in the fight against cancer. The Relay continues to grow and they will net over $150,000 - 40% more than last year. The teams go all out with elaborate decorations and team t-shirts. The over 100 survivors enjoyed fellowship and encouragement from everyone at the event
