The purpose of this award is to recognize successful practices and innovations supporting the mission and goals of the international cancer organizations that hold Relay For Life events.

While every Relay For Life event worldwide strives to be the "best" Relay, these awards, in general, are based on recognizing a promising practice in each of the categories.

All events that follow International Relay For Life Standards are eligible to apply.  The International Relay For Life Advisory Team will be looking for results of implementing programs in each category based on, but not limited to, the concepts of:

  • Activities occurring before, during, and after the Relay with special consideration given to activities that are sustained year round.
  • How the project supported the mission of the organization.
  • Increasing the presence Relay in the community.
  • The number of people reached.
  • Goals of the activity.

All submissions including any attachments (such as photos, forms, clippings, etc.) must be submitted electronically to relayawards@cancer.org by August 31, 2009 at 11:59pm Eastern Standard Time.

  • 2.5' X 5’ Horizontal Banner (one per event)
  • Commemorative Framed Art Poster with Coin Medaillion (one per event)
  • Framed Certificate
  • Ribbon Car Magnet (15 per event)

Winners in each category will be announced to the International Relay For Life partner organization's Relay staff in October.  Awards are announced and presented to winners at a time determined by each organization.

If you have any questions, please contact Iris Pendergast, International Relay For Life Lead Training Manager, at 1-303-284-7674 or iris.pendergast@cancer.org.
