Well, I finished round 4 on Friday, so back to my corner, battered and bruised I go, waiting for the next bell to ring....which I hope isn't for a very long time!!! hahaha This one was a kicker, but got thru it, and the chemo-brain is slowly de-fogging......I only wish my dad's MRI results had been better. Even though he got thru about 90% of his treatment, the nasty, agressive tumor, ended up GROWING 1/3 LARGER! Talk about a blow!! I was expecting them to say it had, atleast, slowed down or stayed the same. They have given him 2 options....hospice or an experimental chemo. My dad wants to do the chemo...he's not ready to give in yet! Of course, the wonderful world of insurance doesn't want to pay for it, so we are hoping that he will qualify financially to get it paid for. We should find out on Friday if it's a go or not. I only wish I could be there with him right now.....hopefully soon. Our relay is a week from this Saturday and I'm going in 10 different directions at about 900 miles an hour......and of course, loving every minute of it. Having my dad fighting this battle too, just makes me want to fight even harder, for him.........if he won't quit, neither will I!!!

I am writting to say cograts to the the committee, team captains, and all the volunteers that made the chartiers houston relay such a huge sucess. We had enough rain that I thought about building an ark; but even with the rain the show must go on.(Our theme was setting a stage for a cure) Everyone did a fantastic job this year, and next year it will be our 15th anniversary and with it being the SILVER anniversary of relay I am already getting excited about relay 2009. With us bringing in $208,000.00+ this year I can't wait to see the amount next year

Well, Here it is Tuesday the 20th already. Where in the world did the time go. I had planned to be in great shape for the Haverhill walk. I joined a gym, I went to Yoga, I went to both of those things. Then I found out that I am expecting my third child. It has placed my training on hold just until I get over the "morning" or rather it should be called all-day sickness. Funny, how I have to say that I need to train to walk.
I am walking for my grandmother who has been battling cancer for over fifty years. It started when she was in her thirties with cervical, then skin, then breast, now colon cancer. She is strong and stubborn. Which I think most 87 year olds are. She is my Visa commercial..priceless. She moved in with me about 1 1/2 years ago with the assumption that we would be given three months.
We have our good days and bad, now more frequently they are not so good. I would not be able to give her the love and attention and time if it wasn't for my husband. He supported my desision to quit my job and take care of her. It is not as easy as it sounds. Being in the house all the time can put a strain on anyone. I have a good support system of friends and family that help out.

When people ask me what I do for a living, my first responses always is, “I am a nurse” and I proceed to say I work at ACMC Infusion center and talk about what a great team of nurses, doctors, pharmacist and receptionist that ACMC has and what great care we provide to our patients. I love taking care of oncology patients because they are the most appreciative, grateful and compliant patients that I have ever provided care for. Last year my team participated in the relay event and it was great opportunity to honor our patients. I feel privileged to be a part of the most vulnerable time of a patients’ life. When a patient is diagnosed with cancer, they need the strong support of a caring, well educated staff. We have that ACMC. Our team tries to go the extra mile for all of our patients. We participate in this event to thank them for allowing us to be a part of one of the most blessed parts of their lives. As health care providers, we all are fortunate to help others and make a difference in peoples’ lives. I am asking you to join us in our fight back to raise money, by participating in the event, celebrating and remembering the lives of those who have won the battle and lost to the disease.

This was my second year as Accounting Chair with Online Chair added to my duties this year. Last year, our relay was very small and it wasn't so bad. This year, it burst wide open and we had more teams, participants and monies raised. All good problems to have but I was not prepared for Bank Nights. Can someone detail (and I do mean detail) how Bank Night is handled for your Relay?
Thanks for any help.

This is a "shout out" to all of those Relay For Life teams in State Farm's Creative Services Department. Last week, their Relay teams combined to host a 3-day fundraiser. Why? Because 3 of their coworkers were diagnosed with cancer in the past 6 months. They've lost 2 of their coworkers to cancer in the past year. Yes, it's personal.
Along with selling buttons, quilt squares, baked goods and silent auction items, they also hosted a jail and bail. (Get this... you could buy "get out of jail free" cards prior to the event. What a great idea.) It was amazing to see the items donated for the auction. Creative Services is the "Art" department. These talented individuals donated their music and artwork. One creative individual even donated his time. (You could bid to have him for your personal assistant for 1/2 day!)
Get this... the department head to the entire department out for a walk and gave them a water bottle with a custom label. When they got out on the walk, they asked everyone to fill the bottle with change. (A water bottle full of dimes is $90!)
