They brought Relay to me!

They brought Relay to me!
Current mood: surprised

It's Friday night and there are Relay For Life events on football fields all over the nation.  During Relay "season" which is from mid-March to early June, communities across the nation, and several in foreign countries gather together for Relay.

My local Relay was a couple of weeks ago and I was unable to attend. Tonight, some very dear Relay friends brought Relay to me.  Members of the Heroes of Hope Workgroup, who are attending a workgroup meeting in Dallas this weekend, got together and drove from Dallas to bring Relay to me.  They flew into Dallas early to attend "MY" Relay.  99% of those attending my Relay were cancer survivors.  They were from Missouri, Oklahoma, the Austin area, the Houston area, and the Dallas area.

"Carla's" Relay had a great planning committee.  They quickly decorated my hospital room with balloons, purple lights and put out luminaria bags.  We took a "team" photo.  Then all survivors were honored.

Luminaria Names

At our rural Relay we still read all the names on the luminaries during the ceremony.  People continue walking the track in silence while they are being read.  In the past we have had the problem of there being more then one luminaria purchased for a person during Relay, therefore causing the name to be read multiple times taking up more time.  We do not have electricity at our site.  This year we took a notebook and wrote the letter A in the corner of the first page, B in the second etc.  When luminaries were purchased, we checked the list.  If the name was not on the list we added it, if it was we did not.  This worked for us.

HELP ASAP

our youth team's chaperone backed out on us today, the day of relay. what should we do? we can't not be a part of the event. we have absolutely no one else to chaperone. HELP!

Honoring Roz Rosas

2008-05-17

It is so touching to be at the Relay for LIfe! My sister-in-law has breast cancer and she is the bravest person I know. She is such an inspiration to all of us. We're walking to honor her and to let her know how much we love her! My whole family is walking for Rozzie and we are proud to do that.
