Brandon And His Fight Against Childhood Cancer

AS many know, my son Brandon was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma in March of 2007 at the age of 13.

Brandon went to bed one Friday night in January of '07 and woke the next morning with his eye swollen shut. After two months of trying to find out what was going on Dr. Eric Baylin did surgery to try and remove the tumor but was unable. Brandon then started chemo treat ment a week later at the Aflac Cancer Center in Children's Healtcare of Atlanta.

After 26 weeks of Chemo and 25 treatments of radiation to the left eye, Brandon has been cancer free since November 6th. I can't describe what Brandon and our family went through for the last year. As a parent you are helpless to such a terrible disease and to have to watch your child go through such pain.

Brandon was able to maintain straight A's in all his gifted classes at M.D. Roberts Middle School in Jonesboro, GA through all his treatment. Brandon is now able to play baseball even though his sight in the left eye is blurry.

RFL music cd's

I have a legal type question. Would it be permissable to sell, let's say a home made cookie for $10.00, and give away a cd that you downloaded off of Lime Wire? You wouldn't be selling the cd, right? There are such awesome songs listed on this site, that I thought, making up cd's for a fundraiser would be awesome. I just don't want to break any laws. My brother, who was in the entertainment business for a long time, said he thought that if RFL or ACS has an agreeent with ASCAP, this might be permissable under that agreement. If any one has any knowledge about this, please let me know. Teri

Sweetness!

Hi , my name is Sadie Thompson. I live in Grand Blanc Michigan. I am on a relay team called Kids Kickin' Cancer to the Kurb! I have a very interesting back ground. I have lived in many, many places. The most interesting place I have ever lived would have to be Japan! It was cool. I lived there for three years and I went to an all Japanese school with my sister and one other American boy. My parents are devorced and both of them are re-married. But I am happy just the way I am. I like to play soccer, cheerleading, and I am on a swim team over the summers. I am with my dad over the summers because he lives in Virginia. He is stationed there because he is a marine and works for the president. He is the head of the Presidential Helicopter Squadrian! It is realy cool to have a dad like that. SO now that you know a little bit about me, look at the reat of the sight and get into the American Cancer socity's Relay for life relay on the 13th and14th of June!

E-Cards

Are you registered on line?

When you register your team on line you have a great opportunity to increase funds raised and share stories.  Personalizing your page helps encourage those you e-mail to donate.  How easy can it get?  E-mail is a great way to reach a large number of family and friends.  Relay For Life has provided us with all the letters and thank you's.  You can even track if your e-mail was read and if they looked at your site.

But have you sent an e-card?  At the top of the main page you will find Fundraising Ideas.  Listed in the drop down is Send an E-card.  You will see a variety of post cards to send to the same family and friends as follow up or even send to your team mates.  Remind them of events or even remind them to send out letters!  Again, can it get any easier?

Here is a testmony from a team that used the e-card:

From Kim, 2008 Team Captain

Hey Bethany. I wanted to drop you a quick email and say "thank you" for the
advice on sending out the postcard to my address book. I did it and I have
already gotten 2 donation committments. Wow! Therefore this is proof that the
emails do work. I actually wrote up my own little letter on Word, making it a
little more personal, and attached it to the postcard. If there are other
small teams like ours struggling to get donations then please forward this
email to them so as to offer some encouragement. I am going to send a follow
up email to those I sent the postcard to, probably next week.

Go TEAMS!!!!!!!!
