First Time

Smile Although there has been much cancer in my family, this is the first time I've been "team captain" of anything involved with gathering funds for research, to assist cancer patients, or camps for children diagnosed with cancer. I'll need lots of help from family and friends; I know that I can count on each one of you who reads this. Let's make a difference in our lifetime!  Thanks -  Linda

Luminaria - Entering into the system

How do we enter luminaria into the database if they are "purchased" offline?

question about handmade items

This is my first year as a team Captain, and I have read lots of wonderful ideas for event fundraising. My question is, if I want to make something (like bracelets) or purchase something (like car ribbons) to offer for donation,  do I reimburse myself for any out of pocket expenses?  I am planning on asking local businesses to donate the items I am looking for but I didnt know how it worked.

Thanks

Caring Hands at Work Team

I went to 2006 Relay for Life of Tuscola County, I was never at the event before...What a humbling exspirience for me.  I felt so over whelmed,to start a booth and do what ever I could for 2007 Relay for Life.  Well, all year I collected things for my booth and talked to people about the need to help, as I seen freinds and family pass away from cancer...I knew,I wanted to help even more.  I went to the fair grounds and ask for a space to have my booth and they ask how meny in my team? and I looked at them and said just me...is that OK?  They were so kind and nice, they let me set up and I was ready to go, I was over whelmed to see the work and comitment by all the teams, and relized it takes alot more then just me...I didnt give up,I just decided to find a team that I could get to help and this year 2008...watch out, Im back and energized, with a team of workers and as humble now as I was before,I cant do it all, but...Im back and trying alot more new ideas and a team....isnt it wonderful, how things work out,I hope others will feel that feeling of thankfulness and humbling existance,to come back and give from your heart...

Andy

Hello everyone,
As you all know, Andy was diagnosed with Mediastinal Seminoma (Testecular cancer in his chest) on October 23, 2007. He has been undergoing chemotherepy at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii. Last week he finished the 4th round of chemo and has been really run down, sick from the effects.
March the 12th he will undergo a full body CT scan to see if the cancer is gone. As he told me, there is no cure for cancer, you always have the cells that can make it come back after being in remission.
Andy has joined several support groups, one is called Planet Cancer. This website is for cancer patients and families, friends, and there for support. It has helped me so much. Being away from him during all this has been very hard. And reading story's of other's with cancer and knowing that he has a group that he can talk to, makes me feel so much better.
Please continue to pray that he get's better.

Taste of Relay

Every year for the past few years we've always ahd a them for our event, this year we decided to do a "Taste of Relay"  Looking for some fun ideas to share with our team at kick off next week and way to approach our businesses to get involved

Relay decorating

Has anyone ever made a balloon arch? I am on the committee in Ft-Payne Alabama and our committee members are going to try this for the first time. I know when it comes to stuff like this you always think of a better way on the second time around. Just wondering if anyone could give us some good advice.

Kick-off Party

I think our Kick-Off event was quite successful last Friday night.  We set up different stations...welcome table, teams, luminaria, survivorship, cancer control, registration (w/ laptops) and of course a food table with LOTS of food.  We registered quite a few teams online that night. We also met a few people brand new to Relay who now want to have a team!  It's very exciting and I feel like our Relay and our Committee has such a great momentum right now.
