My Personal Experience with Cancer

I am new to blogging but not to cancer.  I took a bad fall in 1996 and from that I had a couple of broken ribs and lots of bruises and pain.  When the bruise on my back didn't get any better, and I was plagued with back pain, the doc sent me for an exray which showed a mass on my lungs.......from there I had to have an ultrasound of the abdominal area due to the back pain and at this time they suspected lung cancer and they requested a CRT of the lungs.  The tech who did the CRT said "....well that's odd"!  I asked her what she was referring to and she said "it's probably nothing, but I'm seeing some dark area just under you lungs and I'm going to take a few extra "slices" (a term used for the pics and how they are taken)  ONnce the tests came back they found I had a mass in my  kidney and the mass in my lungs was a hemoma (blood clot) caused by the fall but they weren't concerned with that now, they decided I needed an artereogram(sp?) They said this would determine for sure if it was a clot or if it was cancer.  Cancer would have blood going to it and the clot would not, but they couldn't tell anything til that was done.  Needless to say, I had it done and when I came to after the procedure I asked the Tech if the spot had a blood supply to which he replied NO.  Wow, what a relief......I finally slept for this first time in 3 weeks!

Tent Theme Ideas Needed!!

I am new to Relay for Life and am team captain this year for a group that has never participated, needless to say it is a bit overwhelming!  The theme for the Relay event is "Lights, Camera, Take Action Against Cancer."  We would really like something neat to go along with the overall theme, but am clueless.  We are on a tight budget, so it needs to be something rather simple but creativity abounds!  Any suggestions for tent decorations, team names, games or activities at the tent site would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Kids Care Ideas

This is the first time our Relay has a Kids Care committee.  They have some ideas for kids ages 10 and under, but not really anything for 10-15 years old.
They are planning a bubble pool, moonbounce and story teller.

When do other Relay's have Kids Care?  Throughout Relay or just certain hours?

 Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks!!  Laughing

Thanks

Its a relay for life! Sometimes we have to battle with all of our might.  And sometimes it hurts.  And some scars run deep but conquering my struggles and showing others the way I accomplished my goals is what sets my mind free.  I run a relay for life.  And I never stop.  Right now I'm on my way and a member of the American Cancer Society.  Thanks for having me here.  I'm here to help and I know that I'm going to need yours too.

Asking a store/restaurant for help

My team would like to do a bake sale, and the only place we can think of would be our local Kroger store that has a large entrance, where the carts there, where everyone would see.  How do I (and who do I) ask to be able to set up a table for a few hours on a Saturday? We are thinking we'll have different goodies, some chocolate candies, and luminary forms. I'm also thinking it will be "By Donation" instead of pricing everything.

So, how  and who do I ask? And to those who have done a bakesale, what did you rake in?!

Please join us

My son in law recently passed away from a brain tumor. He was only 39. He left two sons and his wife Michele. His illness was very sudden and unexpected. I encourage everyone to support their local Relay For Life. Jason was an awesome person. If this had happened to someone's husband, father, son or son in law he would be out there helping and fighting this cause.
