Prayer Knots

Hi I'm new to the Relay so any and all information would be helpful.

My plan is to have people donate money to tie a knot in a blanket - you know, those fleece blankets with all the knots around the outside- and hopefully after we have a couple made, we will raffle them. Does that sound alright?

I'm also really curious about luminaria. I remember helping coloring the luminaria for people when I was younger, and I would like my team to do that but I dont know how to get them ordered or anything.

One more thing is that my team has already raised some money and I don't know how, where, or who i give it to.

If there's anyone out there who can give me the 411 on Relay for Life, they would be a blessing. Thanks!

Why I Relay and why others should do the same

Smile I relay for my mothers boyfriend and for the numerous family members of mine who have battled and lost their fight against cancer. We are out there every year trying to raise money for new technology and cancer drugs. My mothers boyfriend right now has been battling lung and liver cancer for 4 years and we were just recently told that only one thing was left  for him to try, the doctors quit all his chemo treatments and said the only hope was a drug that costs $3000.00 a month. We need to keep rallying for a cure so people like my mothers boyfriend can afford the medicine they need to lead a long life. So, if you ever have someone come to you asking for a donation, please dig deep in your heart and help this fight. Although you may not have a friend or family member that has either been suffering or has passed away because of this disease, think about the people who have lost a loved one or who have a loved one struggling or maybe they themselves are battling, show some compassion and help. You could make a world of change in the life of one of these people. Thank You

Lunches- Great Ideas for Lunch Fundraisers

We do alot of lunches as Relay for Life fundraising events, and the employees really enjoy it.  I am looking for more lunch ideas, because they are asking for more.

Here are the ones we've had so far, that work really well.  We have a potato bar lunch, where employees sign up to bring either potatoes, or a potato topper, such as bacon, chili, broccoli cheese sauce, butter, etc.   On the morning of the lunch, we put all the potatoes in a cooker to bake, and they are done by lunch time!  We charge $5 a person for the lunch, and usually have a big turn out.

We also have a sloppy joe lunch, with a sign up sheet where you can sign up to bring a  crock pots of sloppy joe meat, or chips, a desert, buns, a potato salad, etc.  The employees love it!  It gives them a chance to try out their new recipes, etc.  Those who don't cook sign up to bring things like chips, ketchup, etc.

There are times we have meetings that bring in employees from other locations, and if I schedule the lunch around the same time, I get more of a turnout.
