Sally's Journal

I hope this will be a place to store my thoughts and feelings as I go through the experiences of life with cancer. There are so many women in my family that have fought cancer. Some have won. Other women have not.

Aunt Mary died last Monday. She was eighty years old. She first developed Breast Cancer when she was 55. At 75 she was diagnosed with breast cancer in her other breast. After a mastectomy & chemo, she began to bounce back, only for her cancer to appear in her lungs last year. She was a good woman. A great mother and aunt. A fine and loving wife.

Platte County Relay for LIfe

Well, it's official...DH Mark works for Becton-Dickinson East Plant in Columbus. We were asked if we would be interested in participating with the BD team and we said yes. Cancer seems to be so prevalant in my family. An aunt who had stomach cancer, another aunt who had breast cancer, a cousin who is currently battling lung cancer and her sister-in-law who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. That's a lot of luminaria's to buy this year!

Anyway,I would encourage everyone to donate time or talent to help in finding a cure for this vicious disease. If you would like to support the Platte County Relay For Life team, please contact me to let me know how you would like to help.

HAPPY ANIVERSARY TO MY BIG BROTHER

This past Friday April 4th it was ten years since my big brother Chris was diagnosed with colon cancer.  He was lucky because it grew on the inside of his colon and they caught it early.  I remember getting that call like it was yesterday, I never cried so hard because I felt so helpless.  Him and his family lived in Dallas and I was in Chicago.  Friday they celebrated with a bottle of champagne!  He feels so blessed that he survived this and so do I.  I want to thank all my fellow Relayers for doing what you do.  I know that becoming involved with Relay has certainly made a difference in my life!

Reason for forming/joining a team.

Hello everyone.  Thank you so much for taking the time to check out the website and our team...GO RUM RUNNERS!!   We have a few reasons for forming our own team this year and hope you will share yours also.  As Co-Captains, Jaime and I really didn't know what we were getting into, we just wanted to raise money to help fight the never ending battle of cancer. This was the perfect opportunity.

We chose the Rum Runners, as we wanted to incorporate our family's name of Rumrill as Jaime and I are walking for 3 members of our family.  Then the "Runner" part just came to us.  We are walking for our Grandmother Patricia who lost the fight with Cancer, our Uncle Rick who is currently starting another fight, and for our Aunt Maggie who is a survivor.

We all have our reasons, whether we have lost someone close or know someone who is fighting, and each one is equally important.  I hope you will join/sponsor  the team and come out for some fun to support a wonderful cause!
