alternatives for balloon release?

Hi all,  We've been trying to find alternatives to a balloon release for our closing Fight Back ceremony.  The emotional impact is wonderful but many of our relayers are quite concerned about the physical impact the balloons have on our environment. We thought of butterflies but they are expensive and need to have slightly warmer weather than we expect at closing ceremony.  We also looked at cellulose balloons but they are VERY expensive.  Any other thoughts??  Thanks in advance. lap beads

Does anyone know about the lap beads fundraiser? I read it somewhere but can't remember where and need to know how you tie the necklaces so you can keep adding beads for each lap.

Survivor Stories request

Our Relay theme this year is "Relay Around The World" and we are hoping to collect survivor stories from around the world and all states in the US. We would like to light  luminarias for survivors from all around the world along with the stories. We are located in York,PA. Please send me any stories you can including the State or Country which it is from. Thank you fellow relayers for all you do. I am a 7 year survivor myself and you are all making a difference! God Bless!

How are you doing with your "Fight Back" pledge?

It's hard to believe it's been 7 months since we met in Dallas to learn about the new Fight Back ceremony and pledge.  So, how are you doing?  I have to tell you, I got off to a slow start.  My pledge was a personal health goal.  I didn't step too far out of my comfort zone and pledged to have 5 servings of fruits and vegetables each day.  Of course, I knew that I really needed to do much more.

Toward the end of 2007, I was looking at all of the volunteer work I had been doing for Relay and my community when it hit me that I really needed to do something for me.  I made a new fight back pledge that was going to take more hard work on my part.  I set measurable goals of getting back to my wedding-day weight and getting in shape by exercising 3 days a week for 30 minutes.

I started working toward my goals on January 1.  I'm happy to let you know that my progress has been steady.  (I keep my younger son updated with my progress.  His response is always "Great job.  You still have a long way to go!"  LOL!) And, I've actually increased my exercise to 5 days a week for 1 hour!!

Bloomees???

Has anybody used Bloomees.com?  From what I can gather on the website, it is basically a "middleman" for shopping on the internet.  They have a ton of merchants (such as Home Depot, Babies R Us, Gap, etc) that paticipate in a cash back program.  You shop at the merchant of your choice through Bloomees and they donate a predetermined portion of the purchase.  You can invite people to sign up to shop through Bloomees to benefit your cause.  Anyway, I just wanted to hear if anyone knew anything about this.
