NEW TO THIS

Hello all! I am a new team captain this year and was wondering on what you all recommend as being an easy and successful fundraising ideas for very small communites. I have a few ideas, of course the general bake sale, car wash, indoor yard sale, and possibly doing a raffle on a crocheted blanket featuring the "colors of cancer". Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.... Thanks!!

Steve's Students

In August, 2007, I wrote to my college professor with a simple question about a play I was reading and got an answer I never expected.  He said that he'd been diagnosed with adreno-cortical carcinoma and that the prognosis was not good.  I spent a lot of time feeling really sad, but woke up one morning, PRAISE GOD, with the idea to start a Relay team to support this wonderful teacher from Millersville University of Pennsylvania.  I'm glad he knew about the team before he passed away on January 9, 2008.  He was even looking forward to the Survivor's Lap.  The registration form probably reached his doorstep the day of his funeral, that's how quickly the cancer took him.  The fundraising is going quite well despite the lack of Millersville students who have been coming forward to join the team.  Maybe they didn't appreciate Dr. Centola's 3 hour lectures about Arthur Miller and American Drama, but I hung on every word, perhaps somehow knowing that the world was about to lose this treasure of a teacher.

Children's art contest - help please :)

We want to do an art contest for our county elementary schools and then post the art at Relay and let people "vote" on their favorite as an onsite fundraiser.  Has anyone ever done this at their event?  If so, how did you organize it?  I was thinking about a pre-registration form where we give them a Relay related theme.

Remembering and Celebrating a Friend

I am sorry to say that my friend Jacque lost her battle with cancer on February 16th. She is the main reason I joined the Relay a few years ago. She was very dedicated to cancer awareness and determined to fight back. She put up a great fight, but her poor body just couldn't take anymore. I will miss her dearly, but I will do my best to continue her quest on cancer awareness. I love the Relay for Life and all it offers. Stay inspired and help win this battle for those that are unable to fight anymore!

I wanted to share a story she wrote ......

Chamber grant

I have been approached by our city chamber of commerce to apply for a grant - just wondering if anyone out there has done this before?  And, if so, what were the requirements?  I don't have a clue where to start!

 Thanks!

webpage help

On the Convio help page it says you may have your page setup for more then 1 photo.. any idea how I do that?  I would prefer more then 1 if possible.   I am VERY new at this relay thing and have what to me is a less then successful team the past 2 years.. trying to pull out all the stops this year.

Any Ideas for sponsorships and how to get them?

Me and some of my friends are first time relay for life participants.

Were going to be setting up a booth to try and earn money for the cause.

Any Ideas for a sponsorship or somthing we could do at the booth?
