My Reason for Participation in Relay For Life

I will be participating in Relay For Life for the first time on April 25, 2008.  When I heard of this relay and what it was for, I knew I had to do it.  I lost a sister-in-law, a father-in-law and a good friend Sandy to cancer.  I watched them stuggle with this horrible desease and nothing could be done.  I feel if I can do my part in raising money to work to find a cure for this awful desease, I will be contributing to the cause in a personal way.  I will be participating in the relay in the memory of Sandy and all the others.

I hope you will consider a contribution to support me and my team in raising funds for such an important cause.

Not letting students leave?

Hey.  I am the co-chair of a college Relay at Seton Hall University in NJ.  I was just wanting some feedback about an issue we will likely face this year.  This is only our second year doing Relay and last years did not go all night (ended at midnight).  This year we will go all night.  It is required for all Greek organizations on campus to participate in Relay.  But for those who do not truly want to be there we are hearing they may leave half way through the event.  This is because the university will have them sign into the event at the beginning and sign out of the event at the end to "make sure" they are there all night.  But we are hearing that some students may just show up to sign in and come back in the morning to sign out saying they were there all night.

What do you suggest?  Should we not allow anybody to leave from 12am-6am to prevent this?  Any other ideas?  Thanks!

We need participants

Relay for Life is approaching us fast.  Before you know it, April will be here and we need your help to battle CANCER!  Walkers and volunteers are needed to help make this year's relay another success.  If you would like to participate in the Relay for Life on the OMS Bulldog team, please contact:

American Cancer Society Volunteer Receives National Honor

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama leads the nation with seven students named to the 2008 USA Today All-USA College Academic Team.

Adam Harbison, USA Today All-USA College Academic Team, Third Team
Hometown: Crane Hill
Major: Healthcare management, Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration
Career goal: Healthcare law

Adam Harbison isn’t satisfied with telling people to quit smoking. He wants to equip a legion of anti-smoking advocates with a toolkit to help them make their college campuses smoke-free.

Harbison, who completed his degree in December 2007, served as National Advocacy Chair for Colleges Against Cancer (CAC), a national program with 366 chapters and more than 6,000 student volunteers. With the help of a professor, Harbison figured out advocates faced three problems when pushing for smoke-free policies on campuses: lack of administrative and staff support, lack of student involvement and lack of resources.

First Timer

Hey, I am a first timer to the RELAY FOR LIFE, and a cancer survivor since May of 2007. I have recently joined the Kappa Nu's and am really looking forward to helping all those I meet gain a better understanding of how we can help irradicate cancer in our lifetime.

This is a challenge to all of the rest of the girls on my team to really get out there and make our efforts count!

I will personally be walking for my mother in law Jeanine, who recently succombed to ovarian cancer, for my dad, Ron, who is cancer free for 7 years now, and for all those who have recently been diagnosed!

Good luck!

Jan

Whoa! Can you believe it?

Whenever I log on to this site, one of the first things I do is check to see how many users are online. I like the see how high the number can get.

Well today it's certainly a record, as far as I've seen.  There are now 840 guests online!  that is fabulous!  Now, imagine if all those people were to register!  There are only 11 registered users online at this very moment.  But how awesome would it be if all 840 registered.  There would be almost 1000 registered user online right now! That's 1000 more brilliant minds who can share information.

Anyway, this is just a testament to what a great resource this site is!  And what a great community this is, as well!  Thank you to Jeff and to all of you!

Thumbing Our Nose at Cancer

This is just the neatest fundraiser idea and just as doable (is that a word?) in real life as Second Life. My sister, Tay, also the Teams Chair for our Relay, passed me a note about this fundraiser our friend, Clio, was  organizing and the more I read, the more I giggled, and thought how much fun it would be to participate. It was a major belly laugh too, as Jed (my husband) and I posed for the pictures and made faces at each other and Clio.  (picture below)
