Really in need of some helpful tips

Goodafternoon fellow bloggers. I blog to you from the Mighty Mississippi.

This year will mark my first attempt at helping to sponsoring an event. That is why I need your help.

So far, the committe chair tools has been an asset to our three member committee. The chairperson (a member of the town's board of alderman), the Advocacy/Ceremonis committee member(The town's school nurse), and the co-chair(me).

All other immediate responsibilities will be shared and delegated as our team grows.

Now, we are in need of samples of everything from surveys to asses community interest, to sponsorship contracts. Even notes from old committee meetings to use as a guide.

If their is anyone out there who has ever wanted to educate their community about such an important issue like cancer and just didnot have a clue how to work out the formalities that come between the knowledge and the know how then you have some idea how i feel right now. Anything you can offer will be greatly appreciated by the small Town of Hollandale,Mississippi. Thank You

HOW CANCER TOUCHES EVERYONE

HI, MY NAME IS RONNIE.  I JUST WANT TO TELL EVERYONE THAT I STARTED TO GET INVOLVED WITH RELAY FOR LIFE WHEN I STARTED A NEW JOB WITH AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. I THOUGHT IT WAS A GREAT CHARITY TO HELP OUT.  SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD TWO MEMBERS OF MY FAMILY COME DOWN WITH CANCER.

THE FIRST FAMILY MEMBER WAS MY GREAT NIECE ERIN.  SHE WAS ONLY FOUR AT THE TIME, AND WAS FOUND TO HAVE A BRAIN TUMOR.  THEY OPERATED IMMEDIATELY.  BUT IT DID NOT GO WELL AND IT LEFT HER WITHOUT MOTOR SKILLS.  SHE HAS BEEN THROUGH LOTS OF PHYSICAL THERAPY.  SHE IS NOW 8 YEARS OLD AND HAS JUST FOUND OUT THAT TWO TUMORS HAVE GROWN BACK IN HER BRAIN.  SO SHE WILL BE STARTING CHEMO AGAIN.  SHE HAS BEEN THREW SO MUCH THAT IT'S HARD FOR THE FAMILY TO EVEN TELL HER WHAT IS HAPPENING.

THE SECOND FAMILY MEMBER IS MY SISTER PAT.  SHE FOUND OUT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO THAT SHE HAD COLON CANCER. THE TUMOR WAS SO BIG THAT IT BROKE OUT OF THE COLON, AND WRAPPED AROUND HER OVARIES.  SHE HAD IMMEDIATE SURGERY TO HAVE THE TUMOR REMOVED AND HER OVARIES TAKEN OUT. AFTER AN MRI SHE WAS TOLD THAT THE CANCER HAD SPREAD THUR HER BLOOD SYSTEM TO HER LIVER AND LUNGS.  SHE'S BEEN ON CHEMO EVERY TWO WEEKS EVER SINCE.  IT'S NOT WORKING.  NOW SHE GOES TO SHANDS HOSPITAL EVERY MONTH TO HAVE CHEMO EMBOLIZATION.  THEY SEND THE CHEMO STRAIGHT TO HER LIVER THUR A TUBE INSERTED INTO HER ARTERY IN HER UPPER THIGH.

We'll Miss You, Kathy

Yesterday, one of our survivors and most ardent American Cancer Society advocates lost her battle with cancer.  Kathy Farmer had been fighting for many years and this recent battle was just to much for her to overcome.

Kathy was a true survivor.  When she was diagnosed with cancer the first time, her odds were not good at all.  But Kathy is a true fighter and beat those odds.  In addition to her own battle, she lost her "daddy" to cancer 3 years ago shortly after our Relay.  Although he knew he was sick, that year he ran home during our event to make extra blocks for our luminaria ceremony as we ran short.

What an amazing and dedicated family.  When her mom called to tell me the news, she told me to be sure to pick up the box of crafts that Kathy had made to sell to raise money for this year's event.  She never stopped fighting back.

Kathy, we'll continue to walk for you and all who battle this disease.  I know you'll be there with me always.

Housecleaning

We made a few more changes today - - hopefully you agree that these changes are for the better.  At this point, you should notice that the site looks a bit "cleaner" and less cluttered.

We have removed 2 buttons from the right-nav (Spotlight Stories and Song Suggestions), but those pages are accessible from the top-nav...so you can still find them.

The left-nav has some new changes...with a couple of quick links at the top, your personal account information beneath it.  The 2 news sections (Relay and Cancer) are below that.  And finally, the archives are posted at the bottom.  Use the archives to find anything that was published on any given day in the past.

Again - if you have opinions, share them by adding comments in these posts.
