Hi All,
I am starting this team in loving honor of My Grandma, Nancy Cleese. She has fought an aggressive form of cancer for almost 5 years now, and her battle is nearing its end. Our family is making their peace with her, planning her death, and thinking of how we will possibly live on after a woman as wonderful and loving and silly and fun as she is passes on. We know she will always be with us in some way.
This year, please join me in making my mark. I would love to raise $15,ooo in Grandma's memory, because I know come July, she will have left this world. She will have definitely made her mark.
I ask you to help me fight this disease with all you have in you, because maybe today you have never watched someone you love die of cancer. It is a truly horrific fate. To watch someone wither and die like a beautiful flower without any water. I have lost many loved ones to cancer. Someday it may be me. Our family history could make it so. Cancer is not picky. It is not race or gender specific. It could be any one of us, for any reason, or for no reason at all. We must help FIND A CURE. For our loved ones. For our children. For the future.

What's the recommended length of the Luminary Service? 30 minutes or a Hour?

My father James Johnson went in the hospital Nov. 11, 2007. We thought he had pneumonia. After some tests were done, we found out he had Lung Cancer. My father died Dec. 6, 2007, 26 days after admission.
This was a shock to his whole family. This disease is such a silent killer. I was involved in Relay for Life in the past and will continue in honor of my father.

I have been entertainment chair for our local Relay for the past three years. I have found that live entertainment has worked well. I have booked from kids gospel group to a full live band. Last year I even booked some guys that impersonated the "Soggy Bottom Boys" and they were a hit (and will be back this year). I try to book the band last as people will stay to hear the band. There are lots of local talent (be sure they have talent) around to be found. People who sing at church or at fairs or bands that play locally. When you tell them it's for your Relay, they will gladly volunteer their time. For the individuals this is a chance to show off their talent. If you get the word out that you need performers, you'll be amazed at how your phone starts to ring.
It's better if you have a flatbed trailer (and steps) for them to perform on. You will need some sound equipment and usually the owner of the equipment will stay and operate it becasue it is so expensive they don't loan it out. Tell them what it's for. You will be amazed at the people that will be willing to volunteer their time.

I am trying to come up with a catchy sloging for our fundraising event but have hit a brick wall. If anyone has any ideas of a catchy slogan for a 4-wheeler (quad) mud bogging contest, please let me know!
Thank you for your participation,

I attended my first Relay For Life in 2007. I received a diagnosis of Metastatic Prostate Cancer in August of 2004. For the past 3 1/2 years we have been fighting this insidious disease. I have a large support group at work, at Church and at home with Family. I would not be able to continue without all of the support.
For those of you who don't have a support group you need to be willing to talk about what is going on. Be honest with people. Get involved with ACS and join in on the Relay For Life if you have an opportunity to do that. Last year we pitched a tent and spent the night. it was a special time that we will always remember.
I keep using the term we! I am not alone in the fight. My Family, wife, 3 daughters, 2 sons, are right there with me. Our Church friends are their with me, as are the people I work with. People who know me don't walk by and just say HI. They usually ask "How are you doing today?" They even wait for an answer. THEY CARE!

Our theme is Relay around the World and I need to get a design for our team t-shirts. Does anyone have a good slogan/idea? My mind is blank on this one. Should I use our state? or the world, or another country? email me your ideas to r.gideon@nsgcorp.com
Thank you for your help.

Hey everyone,
Just thougt I would let everyone know a little about me and why I participate in RELAY FOR LIFE.
My name is Melodee and I am 33 years old. I will be married 14 years Feb. 26 and I have 2 beautiful children. My daughter Christian is 13 and my son Terry is 12.
I have been involved with relay for life since 2003 as a volunteer because I have lost so many loved ones due to cancer. In April of 2005 I found out that I had cervical cancer. But with God's grace they were able to do a hysterectomy in May 2005 and I did not have to have any treatments. So this May I will be 3 years cancer free.
My dad was diagnosed in August 2007 with prostate cancer. Once again with God's grace the doctors were able to catch it early. He just had his prostate removed yesterday at Vanderbildt Hospital in Nashville, TN. They doctors told them yesterday that the cancer was only in the prostate and that it was not in the lymph nodes. He will not have to have any treatments .
