MY STORY

IN 1997, I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH OVARIAN CANCER. I WAS GOING TO STAGE 4. MY DOCTOR TOLD ME THAT I HAD 4 DAYS TO LIVE. I DIDN'T REALIZED HOW SICK I WAS. MY FAMILY DOCTOR JUST DIDN'T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT MY AILMENTS. I HAD CHEMOTHERAPY BUT THE CANCER DRUG THAT THEY WERE USING ON ME, WELL I HAD A SEVERE REACTION TO (TAXOL). BY THE END OF THAT YEAR, IT SEEMED TO BE DOING WELL UNTIL THE DOCTOR DID AN EXPLORITORY IN 1998. WELL, THE NEWS WAS NOT GOOD. MY CANCER HAD CAME BACK. HERE I GO AGAIN WITH CHEMOTHERAPY. I BEEN DOING THE RELAY FOR LIFE SINCE 1999 IN MY HOMETOWN. THEY GAVE ME THE SUPPORT THAT I NEEDED AND THE ENCOURAGEMENT TO KEEP FIGHTING.  WITH FAMILY SUPPORT AND KEEPING A JOURNAL, IT SURE HELPED ME.

Celebrate, Remember, and Fight Back! WHAT EXACTLY DOES IT MEAN?

This is my first year participating in Relay for Life. My team has decided to make some bookmarks as one of our fundraising projects and we'd like to put poems on the bookmarks for what each of the 3 words Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back! means. I'm really confused as to what the words actually define. Someone on my team that's done this before says it means to remember the ones we've lost, celebrate their lives (their meaning those we've lost), and fight back against the cancer. Now, I've never participated in Relay for Life, but I've been aware of it in the past. And I've always thought it meant differently. I've also searched on the site and after reading these from the site:

By participating in an American Cancer Society Relay For Life® event near you, you honor cancer survivors, pay tribute to the lives lost to the disease, and raise money to help fight it – all right in your community.
Much more than a walk around a track, Relay is a time to celebrate those who have battled cancer, remember those lost and get inspired to fight back.

LaughingHI RELAYERS, I log on to read the blog entries and to me they are a great inspiration. I have volunteered to chair the Caregiver committee and if anyone has also done so or is interested in saluting our caregivers. I hope to hear from you. I am a survivor and I am looking forward to recognizing our caregivers. You may also contact me at alifeanew@hotmail.com. I am looking for ideas and connecting with others who feel the graditude for our unsong heros.

Traking on-line money

We would like to have a contest between the teams to see who can get a donation (at least a $10) from the most states.  If a team gets at least a $10 donation from all 50 states, there's an additional $500 of money raised.  Is there a way to track what state the on-line donations come from?

Thanks!

Mary

Raffle Ticket Sales & Drawing

Hello,

I am a new team captain and would like to know if there are rules and regulations about selling raffle tickets to benefit our Relay For Life team? We are in Seattle, Washington. Also are we allowed to hold the raffle drawing during our actual Relay For Life event at our teams' booth/tent?

I am sorry if this questions has been asked before...I truly did what I thought was a thorough search and did not come up with an answer....so I am hoping one of you RFL guru's can help a New Team Captain out! Smile

Sincerely,

Christine

CLOSING CEREMONIES
