My Mother in Law

My husband is second in line of 9 children.  His youngest brother is 16 months older than our oldest son.  My mother in law was only 49 when she was told she had cancer.  The doctors were already treating her for what they thought was a kidney problem for 7 years,  She did pass away at that early age. with three kids still at home.  She had colon cancer.  This was in 1985 and now because of the research being funded by people from all over, several of these children have had early detection of the colon and are free from what would have been bad news with in the next 5 years.  I Relay for my mother in law and all her children who can have early detection and for her grandchildren she never got to see.

The heros in my life!

Hi everyone,

I have been involved with American Cancer Society for many years, but only the past two years as a team member for the Relay For Life.  My dad, who passed away in October, had prostate cancer.  He survived 5 years after being diagnosed.  The last two years he was determined to do the Survivors walk and he did.  In the pouring rain, we pushed him around the Park in his wheelchair. He was very proud to be a part of such a worthy cause.  We all were.

Last June, my mother in law was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer.  She has gone through months of Chemotherapy, radiation and is now home recovering from surgery.

This woman is 69 years old, taking care of her disabled daughter and 14 year old granddaughter.  She is my true hero. She is a remarkably strong willed person and I hope she will be well enough to walk the survivors walk!

Why I run

Dear family and friends,

There really is no easy way to write this…

The good news- Rebecca Erin Lamb is going to be fine, eventually.
The bad news, she has been diagnosed with a treatable form of cancer called lymphoma. At this point, we are waiting for pathology to tell us the specific kind of lymphoma so they can design the best possible treatment. Although we are exploring other options, in all likelihood the treatment will involve several months of radiation and chemotherapy. It is unlikely we will have any more specific information before this weekend Feb 8/9)

The history AKA….How we discovered it
In November, Rebecca/Erin (R/E) had a cough. We went to the doctor who said, “Everyone has it, it is probably just a virus. Come back if it doesn’t go away.” When it didn’t go away and so we went back in December. At that time, it looked like R/E had a sinus infection so the doctor gave her 10 days of antibiotics. The cough was still present at the end of the series so we went back again …this was Jan. 25. This time I asked the doc to do a chest x-ray. She said, “typically we don’t see much in a chest x-ray but I’ll be glad to do it.” An hour later, when we met again with the x-ray, she said. “Good Call on the x-ray…we wouldn’t have expected to see this.” There was a spot on the x-ray near where some lymph node is located. We left with more high powered antibiotics, steroids, a date on Friday for lots of blood work and an appointment for a CT scan the following Monday. Friday’s blood work came back clean, Monday’s CT scan showed and enlarged thymus which turns out to be Dr. speak for a tumor in/around the thymus.

Survivor Quilt as Fundraiser

Last year our Survivor Chair got several different kinds of light weight purple material, (small flowers, dots, solids, etc.) She cut them into 10"x10" squares. At Relay, she had all the survivors trace their hand onto a square and add their name and a message. We then had it made into a quilt to raffle off this year.  We are selling tickets now through Relay.

Logo--What can and can't be used on shirts, etc ?

I remember at Relay 2 years ago-I was told that we couldn't use the word "Relay for Life" on our tee shirts. Can someone share what we can and can't use on wearables and giftwear. I know Relaygear is the place to buy logo related items but we want to design our own.

thanks for any adviceSmile
