Survivors

I am the survivor co chair at our relay and would like to get ideas of the best way to come up with a current list of local survivors.  I have the list from last year but we are a very fast growing area and I'm sure the last year list is not complete.

I am a survivor of kidney cancer and have found the survivor lap very touching and motivating.

 Thanks,

Anyone have ideas?

hey ya'll...down here in South Mississippi the relay is just a couple of months away and we are in fundraiser mode overdrive! ( and having a blast at it). However, I'm stumped on one area, my seven year old daughter, she so wants to be involved. Anyone have any ideas for children to do....I've talked to her teacher and the class wants to participate. The teacher's mom had cancer and I have it so she wants to do something also that involves the class....any ideas?!?!? help?

National Teams Part 4: Working with the National Team

Working with the National Teams

Most of the advice I am about to despence is probably worthy to use with all teams but especially with National Teams.

What is your focus?

I think it is important to have a focus if not a look at the big picture itself.  There are a couple of important things to remember The National Team Program is the future.  If you do not have a team from one of these companies (see Part 5 for a full list of this years teams) get one.  If you do not have a company on the national team list in your area, that won't last for much longer.  Another thing to remember is all the benefits that are going to come from a happy national team.  (These benefits have been discussed in earlier parts of this series.)

Put your focus on making sure that the national teams have a great first year experience.  The more they feel they get out of the experience of Relay the more they will be willing to do in future years.

New to relay and need lots of ideas

Hello everyone out there - i am new to Relay and the activities committee. Well last year was our first year doing Relay at this location and I was a team captain, i did so well that they asked me to join the committee and now I am the head of the Activities and Entertainment Committee. I am looking for new ideas of what's done at other relays. Our relay is a 12 hour relay, It starts at 5 P.M. and goes until 5 A.M.

Does anyone else out there have the same timeslot, and if so what types of activities work best after midnight, i would like some suggestions on how to keep everyone active and motivated until the wee hours of the morning. I have a bunch of ideas we have been working on but not sure when to plan them, i know we have the Opening Ceremonies at 5 the survivors lap at 5:30 and the luminary at 9 and the closing ceremonies at 4:30.

I want to do a jail and bail booth, a silent auction sort of thing, but that can go all night, i believe one team last year had a space walk out there for the kids and pony rides, not sure if they plan on coming back. I want to try a Relay Olympics sort of thing, but am getting stuck on events to do as part of the olympics. I have a few planned suck as tug of war, musical chairs, 3 legged race, dizzy bat race, water balloon toss (instead of egg toss) does anyone have any other ideas they've tried before.

Events/Team Captain

I am wanting to put a team together for the first time, but I can't find an event in my area scheduled. I live in Wylie, TX. I know there have been events in the past in my area, Plano, Rowlett, Richardson, Dallas. However there is still nothing within my area posted. Does anyone know of a Relay going on in the Dallas area and when it is?

A typo, and other minor suggestions

First, this entire site is simply AWESOME and I cannot believe it ever got done!! It is an amazing achievement. But I figure its going to be around a long time, so just a few things I noticed - sorry I am a typo freak, especially on websites:

-one typo is in the Team Captain Toolkit, under themes, not far down what should be Marga-Relayville is spelled Mara-Relayville. We used this for awhile in Acton where we are on a pond and beach....

- in the Committee Chair Toolkit, at least in the Survivor Dev guidebook, it often says "for add'l info on Survivor Development, visit our 5D+ Mission interactive training module, found on Relayforlife.org"      I was uncertain where to go to find that, but went back to the main page with all the 5 Development areas and found a link called Survivorship Development Video Training. I wasnt sure that was it. I think the word interactive means you are going to interact with the site. If it is indeed these videos, I think the names should be identical, or even a hyperlink to the videos? or at least get the word video into the description

Check out this Blog: Boobs on Ice

Here is a great blog post from a volunteer who recently found out about the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walks.

She is a great writer, and her post keeps you engaged.  For those of us who have been around for a while, this post gives us a refreshing view and the allows us to remember what it was like when we  first learned about these events.

New/Confused

I'm extremely new to Relay, and before I create a team [involving many people from Newfane, NY] i had a question. It might end up having an obvious answer, however i was wondering, Do you just choose a sponsor when you create the team? [There is a list of choices, pretty much] or do i find one of the choices to sponser us? [P.S Is there a Cost?]

Sorry if i don't seem too up to date, but i really could use some help.. Thanks!

My Cat Scan Came Out Cleaned

As of today I was told by my Doctor that my cat scan came back showing that I no longer have any tumors in my body eveything shows cleaned no cancer.

I have been fighting Ovarian Cancer for 5 years this month.  I took 14 treatments of Chemotherapy straight and for all of you who have taken chemo know that it is not easy to take chemo especially when its your third time around, but I always knew that the good Lord was going to heal me.  Thank you Jesus for your faithfulness and your mercy and for healing me.  I will always testified of your healing power.  Once again I would like to thank everyone for their prayers.
