2008 will be great!

What are your thoughts about 2008? This will be an amazing year- the political field will be changing and for some of us, life will, too.

As for me, I am looking forward to another Relay for Life. Our team has been together for years and I love each one of the ladies.  This year I am walking for two more reasons; in memory of my brother in law who passed away at 57- 10 weeks after diagnosis of lung cancer and in honor of my sister, who has recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. As for me, with all this news, I am going to look at making myself healthier and encourage others to make better decision for themselves, too.  Life is short!  How about you?   To be continued.....

SLOW DANCE

This was written by a teenager with terminal cancer. We can all learn something from this. Take life one day at a time, slow down, enjoy every moment you have. If you have children, tell them several times a day that you love them. My son is now fighting the battle with cancer, and he will beat it. FATH...HOPE...never lose that.  Take the words of the child who wrote this poem...and be grateful for what you have...

God Bless.

Jannetta...

SLOW DANCE

Have you ever
watched kids

On a merry-go-round?

Or listened to
the rain

Slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a
butterfly's erratic flight?

Or gazed at the sun into the fading
night?

You better slow down.

Don't dance so
fast.

Time is short.

The music won't
last.

Do you run through each day

On the
fly?

When you ask How are you?

Do you hear the
reply?

When the day is done

Do you lie in your
bed

With the next hundred chores

Running through
your head?

You'd better slow down

Don't dance so
fast.

Time is short.

The music won't
last.

Ever told your child,

We'll do it
tomorrow?

And in your haste,

Not see
his

sorrow?

Ever lost touch,

Let a good
friendship die

Cause you never had time

To call
and say,"Hi"

You'd better slow down.

Don't dance
so fast.

Time is short.

The music won't
last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere

You
miss half the fun of getting there.

When you worry and hurry
through your day,

It is like an unopened
gift....

Thrown away.

Life is not a
race.

Do take it slower

Hear the
music

Before the song is over.

The "Rusty Ducks" Team

Hello!  My Father Russ Wagner lost his battle to lung Cancer in Oct. 2006 at the age of 69.  He was a truck driver and his cb handle was "rusty duck".  We are walking in his memory, so we decided to name our team after him too.  Everyone in this world has been touched somehow by cancer.  We as a team are passionate to be a part of the solution to help fight for a cure!!

4th Time's the Charm

My first experience with the Relay for Life was before my sister died of breast cancer. She was diagnosed in May of 1979 and the very next year, I wanted to take action! I went to an organizational meeting...picked up my team captain's kit and then wimped out. Too much responsibility, got to get a team together, got to handle $$...wow...I am overwhelmed. It wasn't easy and it looked and seemed foreboding...

Next time, I was invited to participate on a team the week of the relay...This was in May after my sister passed away in April of 2006...I tried to participate but my team wasn't that cohesive, I mean they may have been friends but I was just an acquaintance and I was so heart-broken that I couldn't stand the pain. I went for an hour or so, but I didn't really participate.

Third time, I am again invited to participate on a team. It's not really my "hometown" relay but it's in my area. This team has friends from high school and I feel a little more empowered. Time has passed and I know my sister would want me to participate. So I sign up and start sending out the emails. I brought in over $1,000 in honor of my precious sister. But still, I am searching for that team experience that has us giggling all night like a slumber party...

Walking for "OUR HERO"

Hello everyone I am the proud mother of a 7 year old son that BEAT THE BEAST!! Bradley was diagnosised with Ewing Sarcoma back in Nov 2006. It felt as if we hit a brick wall, our lives were about to change. Bradley did get with chemo, surgery (he has a prosthetic right scapula) and then a stem cell transpant. Here it is January 2008 and he is remission, doing great. We started a caringbridge site for him. www.caringbridge.org/visit/bradleyweldin. We update this fruequently. We are doing the Relay to show Bradley of the support that we have to help find a cure. He is "OUR HERO" and we will walk proud as we do everyday.

When Advertising is too HOT

Relay For Life of Second Life seems to have a life of it's own, even in advertising itself.  There is so much energy for and discussion of RFL of SL that we have the pleasant issue of guiding that energy and discussion in the directions it is needed most. But, even with this energy and discussion we do find a need to advertise now and again.

We don't want to leave a soul out of the loop and  especially right now when we are holding a contest to have a new donation kiosk designed for RFL of SL. The energy just won't carry the "news" far enough in our humble opinion, and to be awarded the honor of designing the look of this tool that actually funnels every cent donated in SL to ACS is a huge honor and an opportunity we want to offer to all in SL.  So we looked to advertise.  Maybe not the best idea we have ever had but certainly not the worse by far. We were offered and accepted an in-kind donation of advertising space for this contest  from a generous businessman. We were so pleased with ourselves as we stood looking at the ad for the first time.  We were HOT!

New Home Page Archives Available

Starting today, there is a Home Page Archives page available on RelayForLife.org.

Reason for this page: Say you see something you like on the home page, but you don't really need it right now. A month later, you come back and say to yourself, "I remember there was a really helpful piece of information on the home page last month...but I can't find it anymore." Well, relax. From now on - anything that you see on the home page will be archived in the Home Page Archive (which is currently clickable at the top of the home page).

After a while, the link will be moved to the top navigation under the Help section.
