Portrait fundraiser

Our team did a portrait fundraiser with Olan Mills in 2006 and also 2007. We made $1410 for two days. The photographer came to our place and did the pictures. Everybody loved it, and they said everytime they look at that picture, they will remember that it was for the donation they gave to relay for life. We are going to do it again for next year. Since it is getting close to Easter, I thought I would let you know about it. We did ours at Christmas time, but Easter and Mother's day is good also. Our contributors made their check directly to ACS. Olan Mills did not take any of it. I found out about it when I went to their website to look at my pictures I had done in a studio. Hope this helps someone with ideas.

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

Ideas on how to sell handmade beaded bracelets for Relay fundraising?

I am making beaded bracelets with 5 colors of beads (white for hope, purple to represent the relay, black to remember those we've lost and silver to represent a promising future) to help fundraise for my hometown's relay.  2 years ago I did the same thing and did very well selling them at my office, however, I am trying to think of more ways to sell them and get the word out.  Can anyone give me some more ideas?

Thanks in advance for your help!Smile

A fantastically PURPLE evening!

Our first ever Paint The Place Purple event was amazing.  Nearly everyone was wearing purple.  (Even if they didn't purchase our special t-shirt, they wore purple.)  It was a sight to behold.

Long story short, the whole evening was so much more than I ever imagined.  Thinking about it still gives me the chills.  Our U-High youth survivor speaker was great.  Our Olympia High student who has been at St. Jude in Memphis for the past 2 months battling non-Hodgkins Lymphoma arrived home shortly after half time.  The game was stopped to allow her to come to the center of the gym.  Of course, she received a standing ovation and tons of applause.  The gym was so loud. When she took off her sweatshirt hood to reveal her beautifully-bald head, the crowd cheered louder!

I thought I'd share my pictures with you.  (After I clean them up, I'll add them to the gallery.  But for now, just check out my album on Shutterfly.)

Mardi Gras

Hi! I am looking for ideas for a Mardi Gras theme that we have chosen.  I can come up with lots of decorating ideas.  Does anyone have any good suggestions for food, entertainment, etc.?  I have never been to Mardi Gras so I am not quite sure what goes on except the shirt thing which we won't be doing.  To get beads all you have to do is go to the registration tent.

My son Nick was diagnosed in 1996 with 2nd stage melanoma and is now 11 years cancer free coming up on 12!!!  I have been a Relay Chair for 5 years now, this is my last year as chair, and have been involved with Relay for 12 years.  I am currently serving on the IL Task Force.  Still I am always looking for great ideas.  Any help that anyone could offer would be great and thanks!

Keep up the good work!  Good luck with your 2008 Relay For Life plans!

Hey Everybody,

I met with Courtney Friday about our Relay in Millington.  We are thinking about going with a sports theme for our Relay event.  But I need your input.  I think it is a great way to come up with fundraisers and events at our individual tents at the relay event itself.  So, I need some ideas for a theme...

Sporting for a cure....Striking out cancer....relayers vs. cancer...Join the winning team and lets beat cancer...Competing for a cure...

The way that we can set this up is with the Committee Members being the Managers of the team, the Team Captains are the Coaches, and then your team members are the Players.  It doesn't matter if we have more than one team using the same sport, but I think it would be great for the team members to dress to play, if you know what I mean.

So let me know what you think of the idea and also your ideas for an overall theme.

Thanks everyone.

Why Relay For Life

My sister was told that she had cancer in 2003, she fought it for two years the Dr. said that she was no cancer at the end of 2005 we was so glad. but in May of 2006 it had came back little did we know that this time it would take her. She didn't give up even at the end. She walk in the Relay For Life in Gainvilles Ga. 2005 thats was the first time I walk with her as a caregiver. I have lost two others with cancer, and have two more fighting the battle now , so I feel that the less I could is to help them fight back by helping the Relay For Life to raise money to fine a cure.
