Team Captain University

Wow!  What a morning!  Today was the first time that I have ever been to a Team Captain University, and wow was it emotional!  I cried so much through the morning, thinking of what an impact an event like relay for life can do!  I met 2 ladies from Destin that were sitting at my table and they assured me that luminaire moments and the survivor walks never after years and years, never get any easier!   This is my first year being a part of relay for life, and sitting in the room today with everyone I just kept saying to myself, "what has taken me soo long to be a part of this?"  The answer is simple NO ONE EVER HAD ASKED ME TO BE A PART OF RELAY FOR LIFE!  I have lost my grandparents and friends to cancer and now watching my mother in law battle for her life!  I am soo excited to be a part of the fight to find a cure!

The Beginning

Can't wait to get started on this adventure, so much to do. So much I don't know and need to learn about Relay for Life. Most of all THIS feels like something that I can do to make a difference in a meaningful way. The most frustrating thing to me about watching someone you love have cancer is, the unknown and not knowing what's next. Hopefully someday we will know what's next, and be able to treat all cancer patients early enough to have a cure for each one. I would like to be a team captain for a group that will be walking for my husband, and all those who have cancer. Scott was diagnosed with colon cancer that had metastasized to his liver two years ago on September 26, 2005. Since then he has had a colon surgery, 46 weeks of chemo in a row, a radioblation surgery followed by a few months off, at which point the cancer was growing back strong again, and so he had to start back on an every three week regiment of chemo.

Our First Group Meeting

We had our first group meeting today. We sadly are about a month and a half behind. For some reason our team leader didn't get the e-mail that the Relay for Life meetings were begining. But by a chance of luck they saw that the meetings we indeed being held and got to the last meeting.

So today, things went pretty well, we just wanted to get together and talk about our fundraisers and about how much money we had left over etc etc. Even though nobody really wanted to do much planing and more talking we managed to get some things done.

Fundraisers Include:

Candy Sales

Cookie Dough/Pizza Dough Sales

Bake Sales
